Enjoy our beautiful coastal view trail from the southern slopes of Waianae
Enjoy horseback riding through Oahu’s beautiful southern slopes of the Waianae mountains, nestled in a forest with commanding views of the southern and western coastline of Oahu! Perfect for both experienced riders, or for guests who have never ridden a horse before, our rides offer a fun and unique experience. During your ride, you’ll have a spectacular view of the Southern, and Western Coastline of Oahu, and may catch a glimpse of cattle who like to come feed along the trail. You will be riding real working polo ponies who will take very good care of you.
Our location is not open to the general public! Take a horseback ride at one of Oahu’s exclusive locations with untouched terrain.

Recommendations:
- Long pants and closed-toed shoes are recommended, but not required.
- Bring your phone or camera, and your guide will capture your memories for you!
Requirements/Restrictions:
- Minimum age is 8 years old.
- Maximum weight to ride is 230 lbs. If your weight is in question, we do reserve the right to weigh you on a scale and cancel your trail ride without a refund if your weight exceeds the 230 lbs limit.
- Capacity: Up to 8 Riders
- Not suitable for pregnant women.
- Please don’t bring any backpacks or purses, we have saddlebags for small, personal items such as cell phones and cameras!
- Helmets are a requirement for the ride, and are provided!
- You must be physically able to ride and stay on a horse safely (in extreme cases it is staff decision).
- Safety is our top priority for both our guests and horses, so we do not permit trotting or cantering. The terrain is too rocky for the horses to go faster than a walk.
- Guests must listen to and abide by staff instructions at all times. Guests who don’t follow instructions will have to dismount and be picked up in a vehicle, brought back to the stable, and not eligible for a refund.
- Rainouts/cancellations due to weather are at company’s discretion.
- Palehua Trail Rides issues no refunds due to traffic and 100% of the booking total will be kept.
- All participants must complete waivers prior to participation.

Special Notes:
- Please allow ample time for parking and traffic. Trail Rides start right on time! If you are coming from Waikiki, we suggest leaving at least 2 hours prior to the start of the ride, we do not want you to miss the whole experience.
- Waters and other drinks are available for purchase before and after the ride!
Driving directions to Palehua Trail Rides
Type “Palehua Trail Rides” into your Google or Apple Maps navigation.
The map will bring you to a locked gate on UMENA Street. Once through please follow these steps:
- The map will bring you to a locked gate on UNEMA Street. For entrance ENTER CODE 290.
- The gate will not open immediately, it will ring the manager’s phone for remote entrance. When it is answered, only state the name on the reservation. The code is only for trail-riding guests; please only state the name on the reservation. (The speaker is quiet and shuts off after 30 seconds)
- Once the gate is opened, please proceed on the road and yield to oncoming traffic. THE SPEED LIMIT IS 15 MPH. As you follow the road up, you will begin to see GREEN & WHITE signs that say “Palehua Trail Rides” or They will have a HORSE painted on them.
- You will follow this road for approximately 3 miles or 15 minutes.
- At the 1st FORK in the road please follow along to the LEFT.
- When you see the entrance to CAMP PALEHUA, ENTER THERE! Follow the dirt road into Camp. THE SPEED LIMIT IS NOW 5 MPH.
- Once you reach the parking lot, look for the YELLOW DUMPSTERS. You WILL TAKE THE ROAD TO THE LEFT of these dumpsters.
- The road will continue for a quarter mile through 2 OPEN GATES after the second one you will see the GREEN & WHITE signs for parking. Please park in the open dirt lot to the right. You may then walk to the PICNIC TABLES under the WHITE TENT.
- If there are no staff in immediate sight, please wait patiently under the tent we will be with you shortly. We are most likely on the trail or are bringing horses into the barn.
- Please DO NOT walk into the barn, or approach any horses without staff present, FOR YOUR SAFETY.
Itinerary
- Check-in 30 Minutes prior to the start of the ride
- Staff will ask you to sign a safety waiver (Keiki must be signed for by a parent or guardian)
- Select a helmet that fits snug on your head. We have variety of different sizes!
- Grab a saddle bag for your phone! (Keeps your hands free for the ride)
- About a few minutes before the start of the ride, we will begin a short safety demo
- After the demo is completed, we will start loading guests on their pre-assigned horses! (horses are picked based off your weight and no changes will be allowed)
- After your group has been loaded, the guide will mount and guide everyone out for their beautiful and momentous trail ride!
- Horses might stop on the way out to relieve themselves. Do not worry, your guide will stop and ensure everyone is not left behind!
Sit back and relax and enjoy your ride! - On the way back, your guide will let you know when you will stop to take pictures. This is the perfect time to grab a special memorable photo to remember this special adventure.
- On return, your guide will ask you to remain on the horse to ensure we can safely dismount everyone.
- After dismounting, we have treats for the horses. Your guide will safely instruct you on how to feed the horses.
- After the ride, staff will be around to assist with any merchandise purchases or answer any further questions about the ride!
