This hand’s on experience teaches the importance of sustainability and the streams as they feed the loʻi down through the valleys and into the ocean. Learn about how important kalo was to the Hawaiian people for sustenance and its cultural tie-in to Kualoa. Depending on need, activities can include thatching of traditional Hawaiian hale (grass huts) … assisting with cleaning, planting, harvesting the kalo (taro) … or mālama of the laʻau lapaʻau (medicinal plants).

Recommendations:

• Appropriate beachwear is needed and guests will be able to shower and are encouraged to bring a change of clothes for those that will want to work in the lo’i.

Option 2:

• 7:30 AM – Sheraton Waikiki Hotel (Aloha Landing, bus depot)
• 7:45 AM – Hilton Hawaiian Village (Grand Islander Bus Depot)

The return shuttle will depart Kualoa Ranch by 3:45 PM

Option 3:

• 7:15 AM – Twin Fin Waikiki Hotel – Paoakalani Ave (outside hotel entrance)
