Dive the depths of the deep, dark ocean at night and witness the radiant creatures that glow and swim in the dark. Over 2 miles off the Kona coast in 5,000 feet of water, each diver is suspended from the boat at depths up to 50 feet to drift with the ocean current and the creatures that live here. Come witness for yourself the incredible bioluminescent dance of pelagic sea creatures swimming nightly through these waters.  Over eons of time, sea creatures such as jellyfish, fish and bacteria created chemical processes to emit light energy known as chemiluminescence. This is the same process used by fireflies on land to glow at night. Most marine bioluminescence is seen as blue-green light which become more visible when observed in the deep ocean. Organisms exhibit bioluminescence for many reasons, including hunting prey, defense against predators, and finding mates. Some employ counterillumination using their glow of light to blend into light sources from above. Effectively hiding in plain sight from predators hunting from below.
